Can someone explain this lawsuit to me? I don't understand the suit and I've honestly never understood the Rooney Rule. I was a junior or senior in high school when it started and even as a kid it didn't make sense to me.

What is the goal?

I'm sure there is some unfairness going on and that shame interviews do go on b/c of the Rooney rule (although there are probably some coaches who have landed jobs b/c they impressed in an interview that they may not have been invited to). If you look at the percentages though, at least those quoted in the article, other than head coach there doesn't seem to be a problem. Or at least nowhere near the problem Flores and the media seem to think there is considering that 12% of the US population is black.

Only one of the NFL’s 32 teams (3%) employs a Black head coach.
Only four of the NFL’s 32 teams (12%) employ a Black offensive coordinator.
Only 11 of the NFL’s 32 teams (34%) employ a Black defensive coordinator.
Only three of the NFL’s 32 teams (9%) employ a Black quarterback coach.
Only six of the NFL’s 32 teams (19%) employ a Black general manager.

Flores definitely did get screwed by the Phins, but the Giants probably did him a favor b/c they're a complete dumpster fire right now. Also, the whole Belicheat text evidence seems pretty suspect. Why would the NYG or Buff be consulting him on their hiring decisions?

Of course, I don't think overall population is what's being considered here. It's the player demographics. In which case, black players make up nearly 70% of the league. Some think extrapolating that to other positions in the league is appropriate. So nearly 70% of assistant coaches, head coaches, GM's, and owners being black would be appropriate. Thus, any percentages less than those are deemed inappropriate.

With "inappropriate" being substituted by "racist" to evoke more emotion and irrationality.

Yeah, that's the narrative trying to be spun. Of course reasonable thinking would suggest that you don't need to have elite athleticism to be a coach, GM, etc., so NFL FO and coaching positions should mostly reflect national demographics just like any other profession. Of course there's not a lot of reasonable thinking when it comes to these sorts of things...........

Although to be fair to Flores and his lawsuit - it is super ricockulous that guys like McDickface are getting 2nd chances before guys like Flores, Marvin Lewis, etc.
