Apparently the there are reports that the Colts are in play for a trade for Trey Hendrickson.

Thoughts?

IMO, trading for a 30+ year old pass rusher and then signing him to a contract extension is a bit risky.

But then again if he can change the culture in the Colts defensive locker room and provide us with at least 2 years of the production he's had in his last few years, the he's well worth it.

After the Higgins saga wrapped up I figured it would be hard for them to hold onto him.

IDK, I don't love the idea of brining a guy in on the backside of his career either but If he's productive and if his attitude can help, I guess why not? Latu may pick up some things.

Yeah, a 2-3 year contract with an out after 2. Let him show Latu a few things.

I'm all for it, provided it's not too expensive. He should be familiar with the defense, and more pass rushers is never a bad thing in theory.

His on-field/in-house contributions would be great in multiple ways. Obviously a great player. And for the younger guys, he's not only a savvy NFL vet, but an Anarumo vet.

A.) The wrong-side-of-30 reality plus B.) the going rate for Edge Rushers makes it a tough value call that someone else has to make. But the benefits would be strong.

That said, QB is the wet blanket I'll keep throwing on these otherwise exciting and hopeful topics. Several ways now that it could play out, positive and negative. Like spinning in Wheel of Fortune, only there's a shitload more Bankrupts to land on.

If they only give up the 80th pick, I am for it. Anything more than that is an overpay, because the Colts will have to give him a 3/105+ extension after the trade.

The Bengals initial asking price was way more compensation than that - they were originally asking for a 1st Round Draft Pick + another draft pick or player.

Which tells me that the Bengals aren't really interested in trading him right now. Cincinnati is still negotiating with his agent trying to work out an extension and for him to stay there. Maybe something will change if their contract talks reach an impasse.

The Colts are more than one or two pieces away.

Sure, with a little push, we could be IN the playoffs but making a run in the playoffs? Yeah, I think that gap is a bit further afield.

Get younger and get ready for a new QB after the season should be the focus of managment. I get they are all fighting for their jobs but, my perception, they should not screw the team on their way out because they gambled and lost on the wrong QB draftee.

Then blame Irsay because Ballard shouldn’t be here. He’s been in charge for 8 years and apparently still hasn’t produced a season where the team should go for it. He’s fighting for his job now and finally actually pushing to win instead of waiting.

I disagree, fans are on the verge of apathy. And if either of the two QBs are going to develop they need support. They need to be able to be part of a team and produce wins. The idea you win with a bunch or unproven young guys is and always has been wrong. If you want to develop a QB, support him. Both on the field and in the locker room with a strong culture. By now it should be obvious that always saying “next year” is detrimental to building a winning culture.
