Win One For the Right Guard

With Matt Goncalves' dad passing away this week, he didn't practice yesterday and it would be understandable if he missed the game - he's a 24-year-old, after all. According to the injury report, he was full participation today.

Sucks for anyone, especially the younger you are. He's been awesome and made us forget about the guy he replaced real quick. Looks like he's not going to pass on returning to his Pitt stomping grounds.

I watched a film breakdown of the oline in the Titans game and they were just RAVING about how good Goncalves was in that game. Both he and Bortolini.

Add in two good tackles and Q Nelson and you have a beast of an offensive line.

The dude is a 330 mauler, this line is full of them. Not only does offensive line play travel well, this kind of line play should kill it on turf. They seem to play pissed off. Definitely not a finesse indoor team like in years past.

When I saw a breakdown of those two after the draft, I was pumped for the future of this line. They are two players with the same mentality as Big Q.

For anybody that didn't see, here is Zack Hick's latest film study on Goncalves. He has at least one other devoted to him as well.

He singled him out at the beginning of the season as a player he would concentrate on. Interesting because at the time we just had hope and now we have a stud at guard (actually two studs)
