Things to like about new Colts S Cam Bynum:

- Incredibly durable -- 0 missed games the past 3 years
- Ascending in coverage -- targeted 31 times last year and gave up just 13 completions and 1 TD with 3 INTs
- Good tackler -- 97 stops, 17 misses last year

INDIANAPOLIS – Lou Anarumo’s defense is taking shape.

A major piece was added Monday when the Indianapolis Colts agreed with former Minnesota safety Camryn Bynum on a four-year, $60 million contract. A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed the transaction. NFL Network was first with the report.

Anarumo’s defenses with the Cincinnati Bengals included impactful play at safety – Jessie Bates – and that’s what will be expected from Bynum.

The 2021 fourth-round pick of Minnesota started 54 of 65 games, including 51 over the past three seasons. Bynum, 26, has collected 342 tackles, including five for a loss, along with eight interceptions. He had three interceptions and 10 passes defended last season.

Bynum’s addition almost certainly means Julian Blackmon won’t return.

Love it. Hope he flourishes in Anarumos defense.

"Incredibly durable -- 0 missed games the past 3 years".

I pray this continues... The Colts streak of luck will have him on IR before the season starts.:p

Curious to watch more film on him. He's one month younger than Blackmon, but Blackmon has a year of experience on him. With Blackmon missing most of 2021, their total games even up (66 vs. 65).

Just going by the numbers...

Blackmon, 66 games, 225 solo, 300 total, 13 Tfl, 1.5 sks, 10 Int, 71% completion, 101.5 rating, 21 PD

Bynum, 65 games, 217 solo, 342 total, 5 Tfl, 1.5 sks, 8 Int, 69% completion, 99.7 rating, 28 PD

Really interesting that they are pretty much "stat" clones of each other.

My guess? Personality.....trend line....or Blackmon wanting more money than Bynum wanted are to factor into the signing.

Seems like a good get at that cost.

I'm sure durability has something to do w/ it since Bynum has started all 17 games for 3 straight seasons (knock on wood). Probably fit as well since Blackmon is better at SS, which Cross is also better there.

Also, Bynum switched from CB in college to S his rookie year and only had 3 starts that year. Not sure how much he played when he wasn't starting his rookie year, but we probably need to compare 54 starts for Bynum vs. 62 for Blackmon.
