The Colts are naming Jeff Saturday as their interim coach, per source

The Colts bypass two former NFL head coaches already on staff — Gus Bradley, John Fox — and a rising head-coaching candidate in Bubba Ventrone, to name former center Jeff Saturday the interim coach.

That is a real sentence.

From what I've heard, wouldn't be stunned if this is more of an audition for Jeff Saturday than your typical interim role.

As in: Colts want to see if he could be the full-time answer at head coach. Why else go outside the building with other qualified candidates?

As best as I can tell, Jeff Saturday becomes the first person in NFL history to be named a head coach without any coaching experience at either the NFL or college level.

He now takes over in Indy. . . . . SEE UPDATE BELOW

Perhaps the second such hire, as Bill Barnwell notes that Norm Van Brocklin went immediately from his MVP season in 1960 playing for the Eagles to coaching the Vikings in 1961.

An outside the box hire in Indy as they look to get their season on track.

Breaking: Colts are naming their former six-time Pro-Bowl C and ESPN analyst Jeff Saturday as their interim head coach. Saturday has been a consultant for the team, is in its Ring Of Honor, and also was head coach for the Hebron Christian Academy football team in Dacula, Georgia.

ok, this was... not expected.

Tons of respect for Big Sat, but wow...

I bet nobody had that on their 2022 betting sheet.

No more bullshit from the oline, produce or get released or traded

I love Jim Irsey

I hope this isn't true. Good God. We're in a nightmare now. Irsay sees Vrable having success at Tennessee and thinks he can replicate it just like that. No, no, no. Never, ever hire former players for head coach. Never. I'd rather have John Fox. Colts are finished.

Irsay daughters, please pick up the blue courtesy phone. Jim needs a wellness check. He's going senile. Y'all might need to take over. My God.

There is no doubt in my mind that if Matt Ryan is healthy he will regain the starting QB position.
