Colts' Quenton Nelson is so good, he's making offensive line highlights a thing
USA Today showing some Oline love after the Texans game.
https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/01/nfl...hlights-texans Not a ton most of us haven't seen before, but interesting that OL higlights are in a mainstream source like the McPaper. |
QN is a beast. What a hell of a draft pick! Proved everyone wrong that you can't draft a guard that high.
|
He has proven that he could easily have been taken with the 1st overall pick of the draft and he would not be considered to have been a reach. Anyone who makes all pro has proven themselves.
I thought he was the best player in the entire draft before we selected him, but also knew he was highly unlikely to be selected that high because there were so many QB needy teams last year. As happens every year QB's are selected well above where they should be taken. I have said this for the last 30 years.....you build a franchise from the trenches up. Provide decent protection and you can contend with a slightly above average QB. Have a DL that can stop the run and rush the passer and the rest of your defense don't need to be elite level talent. |

Any of the three would have made a big impact on our franchise but Nelson has, by far, made the largest one. Walk Worthy, |
Nelson at guard and Leonard at LB have completely transformed those two units for the team.
Not by themselves, but the attitude and level of play they bring has changed the perception of the team and the state of mind of those two units. |

But Nelson is really the exception. His attitude has created a higher standard along that OL and guys are just having more fun playing the game. Someone like Castonzo was always good, but now he's playing with more joy and purpose than he ever has before. Kelly was always good, but now he's actually activated because he has someone on either side who can pick up or pass off a stunt. |
Big Q! Great draft pick.

https://twitter.com/NFL_DougFarrar/s...66682470293504 At the time, when I saw the first tweet, I was like "yeah right" but he wasn't over exaggerating, was he? |
The best part is that they are all, excepting Castonzo, so young.

Obviously, there are a lot of factors that play into our O-Line turn around.
The O-Line coach talked about the room's attitude when he got here and how they were "hanging their heads." His coaching has obviously worked. The buy-in from everyone in the unit has to happen for a turn around to occur. They have to be a unit to succeed and they have bought into it. But, of the factors, having a guy like Earl Grey who came in and basically gave everyone permission to unlease their inner pancake maker in the most henious way possible was the spark that started the flame. The turnaround of this group is amazing.....and has been stated: 1st year in league = Quinton Nelson, Braden Smith 3rd year in league = Ryan Kelly, Le'Raven Clark, Joe Haeg, Evan Boehm 4th year in league = Mark Glowinski 8th year in league = Anthony Castonzo It's not like Castonzo is washed up; many OTs play well into their early to mid 30s and Castonzo will only turn 31 in Aug 2019. We can expect that he has 2 - 4 good years left on him. Got to keep feeding that unit with mid round bodies to keep up the depth and let the creme rise to the top but, man, this is going to be a fun ride over the next decade. A great O-line makes all thing possible. In 2019, we gotta pay Glowinski to stay. He has found a home in Indy. Walk Worthy, |

Zack Martin was picked 16th, that's worked out well for the Cowboys. Beyond that guards seem to be picked 20 or later. |
Seeing that clip of him pancaking Clowney is epic! And that wasnt the only time he made Clowney his bitch during the game
I cant find the gif and I damn sure dont know how to embed this but https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPynabJcGOc |

What's your point? That because he was a high round selection means that someone should be able to watch the film and say he'll be a Hall of Famer? Cool, watch college tape of Steve Emtman and tell me your impressions. Also, the Chiefs, Patriots, and Jets were all pretty stupid in the 1983 draft. Why didn't they just put in the tape of Kelly (Chiefs) or Marino (all 3 teams), see the Hall of Famer, and draft him?
