not sure what to expect. we had Hurricane Mathew come through a couple years ago but it wasn't much of anything.

people are freaking the fuck out over this one. i should be pretty good. i don't have enough emergency water but if we lose power water should still flow anyway. got some batteries and flashlights and propane to grill up some shit. a charchoal backup.

should be good to go. thanks though

Get out of the basement......worst place for you this weekend.

Stay safe!

They're saying up to 30 inches of rain! I was watching the Louisville/Indiana State game and the announcers were scared they'd be stuck in the stadium and they were only dealing with 5 inches of rain. Build the Ark!

That only works as long as the pumping stations maintain power. You may want to filter/boil the water as who knows how this will impact the quality of the water. Stay safe and tie your shoelaces really tight. If I have learned anything on reddit if the shoes fly off you dead.
I triple knot and duct tape my shoes on now.

I was there during Mathew also, my son got married that weekend, lots of rain and wind, hopefully that’s all you get this weekend.

Haha what?

I will have filtered water in lots of containers for use. Shouldn’t have an issue boiling water. And I guess I have duct tape for my shoes.

I went to the coast a week after Mathew and saw the damage and flooding that occurred in areas. I won’t be doing that after this one since I work mostly in Durham now.

Growing up in Indiana and living in Nebraska so long I am used to tornadoes. Pretty much ignored the warnings and watched like most people. It is odd to see people so worried about a storm. But I also never lost power for weeks at a time. Sounds miserable

I just hope I have internet sunday. And beer

Forget the water, make sure you have enough beer and ice on hand. Be safe Omaha.

Also, I think Doc Spaceman is also from NC?

To any and all Freaks in the area, stay safe!

Brylok 09-11-2018 11:57 PM

Good luck, omaha. The last projected forecast I saw said that the Raleigh area would get 6 inches of rain. That was a few hours ago, so I don't know if it's changed. You should definitely get some beer and ice just in case.

They built the Lousiville stadium in the lowest part of town. The college flooded back when the tornado came through right around the Rider Cup competition. The highest part of town is by the baseball stadium, which is by the river. Go figure

I think the shoes thing comes into play because people who lose their shoes and have to go barefoot or just socks in high water tend to get cuts, which get infected by nasty ass stormwater.

But I would have far moreso prioritized having booze and non-power reliant communication and entertainment options than shoes.

FatDT 09-12-2018 10:07 AM

Good luck and don't die.

1965southpaw 09-12-2018 10:36 AM

good luck!!! Stay dry.

It is a Reddit meme often found in the comments of subreddits that feature videos of drunk people doing stupid shit or wrecks that involves shoes flying off with the impact. Basically I was just being a dork.

JAFF 09-12-2018 04:55 PM

I have a friend who's son is a commander with the USCG. His advice, get the hell out of there. The USCG has cleared out, so they can return to what is left.

Thorgrim 09-12-2018 06:04 PM

Be sure to inflate your floaties! We are expecting flooding in upstate SC but nothing like you will likely get.

smitty46953 09-12-2018 06:48 PM

I thought you were saying that people steal the shoes off dead people like cowboys would do boots of dead people.

Thx. That big bastard changed its course. We’ve got evacuees flooding into town and people acting like it’s the apocalypse. People get a bit melodramatic here when there is a forecast for an inch of snow let alone a big storm. My biggest concern is I’ve got a 100+ yr old post oak looming over my house. Too much rain or wind and I could have a dangerous situation.

What are they forecasting for your area?

6-12” rain, possible landslides and tornadoes. The forecast continues to worsen.

FatDT 09-13-2018 02:01 PM

There are some people, weather people, that seem to really want it to be bad. Breathless talk of how many hours the hurricane will hover, the size of the storm surge, etc etc. Kinda messed up.

Those are probably the same dumb asses who go to the hurricane and then feel the need to broadcast "live" in the storm. I don't need to see an idiot outside to know it's raining. Those morons put first responders at risk when they get in trouble and need rescueing

NC told people in certain areas that if they stay there won't be any attempt to rescue them. probably bullshit but i like the message

landslides? in south carolina?

that is roughly the same they say for here. without landslides obviously. i am glad i don't have trees around my house to worry about like you do. well in this instance anyway. i plan on planting some.

You may end up with some trees in your yard but I doubt you'll want them.

The higher ridges approaching NC are prone to instability when saturated. Once you get past the foothills it’s no longer an issue.
