Rivers will start in Seattle.
Per Ian Rapaport, citing team sources.
|
Mixed emotions about it. Has he showed enough for the confidence, or is he starting because of who he is? Did Leonard not show enough? I know, rookie, blah, blah, blah. He didn't do anything last week to make me say, NO, and his feet can save a broken play. I guess we will see. If he looks 44 years old Sunday, pull him and end the experiment.
|
It makes Sundays' game full of possibilities. For me, had they entered this game with Leonard starting, I was certain of a loss. Now with Rivers at the helm, I have no freakin' idea of what this game will be like. I still don't like their chances, even with a healthy DJ, I wouldn't have expected a win. I don't think Rivers will make the difference, but I am intrigued.
|
Fire everyone, but you can't because you don't have any 1st round picks for the next two years.
Not a serious football organization. |
To me, this is a state of the Head Coach level decision.
Early this week I voted no to firing Steichen, and I will remain in that camp pending the outcome of tomorrow's game but I reserve the right to change that vote about 8 PM tomorrow evening. Leonard has no injury designation for tomorrow, which I read to indicate he is the healthy back up. As such, this is SS telling everyone that his scheme is what wins games. He is proclaiming that an out of work geriatric dude with no mobility but a clear understanding of his game plan can execute his play calls to the point that we can win games in the NFL, up to and including enough games to make the playoff. If he's right, his status as the future should be secure for as long as he wants to be the coach here. However, if he fails, he must be fired and here is my rationale. Leonard is a much closer replica to Jones than Rivers. We jumped out to the 7-1 record by way of Steichen using the full skill set of DJ with pocket movement, RPO's etc... Leonard definitely fits that mold much better than Rivers. Further, from knowing quite a bit about RL, he is apparently pretty much a play book maniac, and clearly has had roughly 8 months to learn it in preparation of possibly playing. So, if Rivers stands in the pocket tomorrow (he HAS no choice) and we shit the bed in all sorts of ways, this experiment by SS is a clear indication he is not capable of sound reasoning and he has to be removed as soon as the game ends. This is really an incredible development and one of the most arrogant moves I can ever remember. Here's to hoping his bet is right, but consider me a skeptic until I see it. |

Andrew Luck quitting set us back 10 years. This is year 7.
I hope Phil doesn't get injured out there. But hes already a multimillionaire and can afford healthcare coverage. |
o
I liked what I saw out of Riley Leonard last week A LOT ....... and that's why I'm glad that he's NOT starting this week ...... I don't want him playing until his knee is 100%, because I'm more concerned about his long-term health than I am about this one solitary game against the Seahawks. We've already suffered through seeing one mobile quarterback play on an injured leg, and I don't want to see more of that. o |
Colts are going by the way of the NBA/Pacers, boxing, Reds, and the NHL.
Carlie has some big time work on her plate. Good luck, and nothing against her. I just stop watching as I get older. |
I'll never stop watching. It's fun, win or lose. Of course, more fun winning. I've seen enough shit years to realize it's just football and winning doesn't make me a better person and losing doesn't make lessen me.

This decision tells you everything you need to know about what they think of Leonard. They think a guy who watched the game on his couch last Sunday is a better option than Leonard. |
Quote:
He’s healthy. They just don’t think he can play. |

This is just Phil reupping his health coverage. I mean, he’s got like 12 kids so that’s probably a smart move. Lol. |

What's he getting paid for these 4 games? Has that info came out yet? $12 million or thereabouts? I'd hope so for him and his health/time. |

I like what I seen from Leonard as well, the potential is there. Just not quite time, but he’d better be ready Sunday I’m sure they’re telling him that |

If he's healthy, then I'm glad. But all week long, we have been hearing that Leonard has an injured knee ...... if they are now saying that the injury is completely healed, then I'm thrilled. But teams don't always tell the truth about injuries, nor do players. After what I saw of him in his 3 quarters of play against the Jaguars, I like the notion/possibility of having Leonard (at the very least) as an adequate, 2nd-string quarterback in 2026. o |

OK, now you have completely strained your credibility. ...... you are saying shit just for the sake of being a contrarian. Just a few days ago, you said that we should start Brett Rypien "because he was good enough to be put in that position before." Quote:
Rypien is a career 3rd-string/4th string NFL QB who hasn't taken a snap from center since the 2023 season. For his "career" he is 98-for-168 (58.3% Completion Rate) for 950 Yards Passing, 4 TD's, 9 INT's, and has a Passer Rating of 59.9. Leonard, on the the hand, was thrown into one solitary game cold with no NFL experience at all, and he performed better than anyone expected him to. He was 18-for-29, and if not for the incompetent referees he would have been 19-for-29 with 1 TD and 0 INT's. You are claiming that the Colts are a clown-show organization, tantamount to Vince McMahon and the WWF ...... the only thing tantamount to the phoniness of the WWF is your trolling the team's desperate efforts to salvage the season that started out so promisingly before Daniel Jones fractured his left fibula. o |

Is there anyway to block a poster?
I am at that point with Brylok. He has not added positively to this board in a while. |

Braylok obviously loves this team and is in pain about how shitty/mediocre we have been for ages. Nobody can post this much hate, with this much intensity this often unless they are in pissed/sick as hell and you can't get this pissed unless you really care. Dude is grieving, given up hope. He isn't sensible and I bet he knows it but doesn't give a shit. Let him vent.
If you must the ignore works perfectly. Ive used it a couple of times but ended up relenting and reading everyone. |
Just getting old and tired, Old. And tired, Old and tired...
An ourosboros going on. And I'll defend myself against any poster here, any time. |
Crazy. Hoping this decision has more to do w/ how Rivers performed in practice, but realistically speaking it probably has more to do w/ Leonard and Rypien. Not a good look for them to have someone who hasn't taken a snap in 5 years and only has 3 days of practice w/ the team leapfrog you both w/out any problem. Even if he is a probable HOFer.

So re-upping the health insurance for another 5 years w/ all of the kids that he has makes more sense from a financial incentive standpoint. |
