Will Fries signing with the Minnesota Vikings - 5 years, $88M

Minnesota strikes again - the Vikes apparently REALLY liked the Colts IOL. Or maybe it is Grigs revenge?!?

G Will Fries is headed to the Vikings for five years and $88 million, sources told ESPN.

One of the top interior linemen on the market is now off the board.

Losing Will Fries hurts, but I understand the Colts allocating that money to the secondary. Not as egregious as it could have been.

Super happy for my guy Will though. I've talked with him since before he was drafted and even gotten to know his family a little bit. Great guy

Holy shit... I wanted Fries back, but I did not see almost $18m/yr coming.

Same here, but you know there are some who will blame Ballard for being cheap, lol.

Especially for a guy coming off an injury

ChaosTheory 03-11-2025 10:30 AM

Vikings loading up on former Colts: Kelly, Fries, Isaiah Rodgers signed.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, I just look at $20m and think Nelson... But really, the market/cap keeps going up so it shouldn't be that shocking. Especially with the film he had.

Also, I probably had this delusion that he was our best kept secret. There are no secrets.

Hoopsdoc 03-11-2025 10:56 AM

I wonder what the Colts offered.

I believe the contract currently checks in as the 11th highest AAV contract for Guards in the NFL...so 11th highest out of 64 starters.

Yeah, I saw fans of a lot of different teams hoping to sign Fries over the last two days.

That seems to be a little high, but close to market value. It just seemed to be a lot higher than the average RG price tag to me.

That dominant playoff win in 1968 has convinced them that their players are what they need.

Indeed. HUGE payday for a 7th Round Draft pick.

And by all accounts a good dude.

I’m happy for him.

IndyNorm 03-11-2025 09:28 PM

Yeah, this sucks. I was hoping we'd get him back on a reasonable show me contract b/c of the injury. Good for him at cashing in big time.

We should re-sign Glow and draft an OG as well.

YDFL Commish 03-11-2025 09:32 PM

I'm concerned about this O-Line. Need veteran depth.

With the rumblings that were going around, I'd expected something like 4/64, but 5/88 was not something I thought I'd see. No reason to pay him at that price.

We didn't have veteran depth last year, went with Goncalves and Bortolini. But have to replicate that in the draft again. I fully agree, depth is a huge concern across the entire roster.

We have now resigned both French and Pinter, so there is some inside experience.

We could have used the extra cap space spent on bring in Jones over a cheaper back up (like Minshew) to have re-signed Kelly.

There was a lot of action on Fries—the Colts were trying to bring him back, and the Patriots, Giants, Seahawks and Cardinals were also involved.

One reporter covering the Giants has stated that Fries' final decision was between the Vikings and Giants.

Besides money, the Giants could have offered a bit of a homecoming for Fries. He was born in Staten Island and grew up in Cranford, NJ - located relatively close to NYC.

Guard remains a position to watch for Giants.

They went hard for Will Fries, whose decision came down to the Vikings or Giants.

Fries got over $17M per year.
