Gilmore traded

Just heard Gilmore was traded to Dallas. Looking for details

Mr. Session 03-14-2023 05:37 PM

I saw for a 5th.

What’s the actual plan here, Ballard?

Brylok 03-14-2023 05:38 PM

I posted it in the other thread. Colts get a conditional 5th in 2023.

I assume Gilmore wanted to go to a contender. We have a rookie QB coming in and a rebuild going on. He's getting old and running out of time.

Wait, a conditional pick for the draft in like 6 weeks?

What are the conditions? Has to be that passes a physical I would think. What else would there be?

Unless it’s actually a 2024 draft pick.

Hoopsdoc 03-14-2023 05:42 PM

Kenny Moore just got a lot more leverage. Who else do they have besides Rodgers?

Maybe they are planning on resigning Rock? He is an improvement over Facyson.

The info I saw said 2023.

I get that, just not why that's Indianapolis' problem.

Ballard and Irsay sure are nice guys.

Oldcolt 03-14-2023 06:24 PM

I have no idea what is going on here but it sure feels like they are trying to make some cap room. Corner backs are hard to find.

What’s likely happening is the Colts are in rebuilding mode. Which is sad because they never seemed to have actually got to winning mode under Ballard.

Yep. Remember when Jim gave Andrew $24M right after he screwed us and set us back ten years? Nice guy. 2023 will be year five of the ten years. Halfway done.

Kray007 03-14-2023 06:45 PM

Gilmore’s more than 30 years old, and he’s under contract for another year. What’s the sense of keeping him around for what will likely be a lost season, only to lose him to free agency? Trade hi, get a draft pick, and use the cap space you carve out to sign a younger piece who’ll still be in his prime in 2 years.

I don't think it is a conditional pick.

From what I saw, it is for one of the Cowboy's comp picks in this year's draft.

The Cowboys received 2 fifth round comp picks this year and apparently the Colts are receiving the later of the two - Pick 176 - according to some of the Dallas beat reporters:

Told it's pick No. 176 the Cowboys have given up the Colts for Stephon Gilmore. One of their two fifth round comp picks they received last week.

No conditions. Dallas was awarded 2 conditional picks in the 5th round. We get one of those.

Clearly the Colts are giving up on 2023.

Rebuild is apparently on. We won't win many games with a rookie QB no matter who it is. Levis might be a train wreck, we'll see. I think several of the older players will split. Kenny Moore posted a "walking" image on his twitter. At least we'll be able to watch the youth develop.

Yeah, Kenny was supposedly a high character guy. Now he can go fuck himself.

I think you are correct about rebuilding. I also know that I don't want dipshit Ballard anywhere near the rebuild. Give him this year then bye.

Dewey 5 03-14-2023 07:19 PM

Might as well shop Buckner while we're at it. He could bring a nice pick back.

Brylok 03-14-2023 07:19 PM

Matt Ryan reportedly being released. He and Gilmore leaving frees up $27M in cap space.

It's like I said yesterday: I bet a lot of the players have grown sick of it. More than we'd guess. I'm not mad at 'em.

I can't blame guys for wanting to move on, but be an adult about it. Not a little bitch by airing your butt hurtness on Twitter.

apballin 03-14-2023 09:44 PM

Don’t like this move

Rebuild was necessary and if it’s with a promising young quarterback, it’ll be a hell of a lot better than last year, even if they win fewer games.

A rebuild is necessary if you admit the last rebuild has failed and needs to be restarted. Otherwise it looks like a continuation of Ballard’s “maybe next year” philosophy. I hope Ballard learned something from the failure and is trying again with a different philosophy.

Oldcolt 03-15-2023 09:32 AM

When is the last time a new coach came in and didn't clear what he deemed dead wood? Anyone who didn't expect big turnover was fooling themselves. In this NFL rebuilds can happen in a minute, if that is what this actually is.

I certainly understand why some of the guys may be moved (Kelly, Moore), but Gilmore wasn’t dead wood. Moving Gilmore is a signal they are still planning for the future and not trying to win this year. It’s somewhat understandable with a rookie QB likely coming in. However the argument has been they were building up the rest of the roster to support a rookie QB and to be ready when they got their QB. That’s how people have defended what they’ve done. It’s a questionable move that isn’t simply related to new coach - especially when the DC and scheme are the same.

The rebuild should have started right after Luck up and quit. It didn't, and that's when the patchwork stuff began. Now that's worn itself out and the original rebuild has to start. Ballard is lucky to still have his job and, honestly, he probably shouldn't.

Exactly. My perception was they intended to be competitive this year, which I felt was warranted because I do not believe the gap between Indy, Jax, and Tennessee is that wide.

This move indicates they're tucking it in, which is fine - but is not what I thought was the plan. I thought the sense of urgency was high for Ballard to get it right this year because it could be his last, but this does not seem like a move that prioritizes winning now.
