GM / Coaching Vacancies - current Colts being interviewed for new jobs

Figured I would start a thread for this set of off season interviews.

The Jags are putting together their interview list for Head Coach right now and Eberflus is on it.

Out of curiosity.. let's say Jags pick Eberflus..who is out there for the Colts to pick as new D coordinator?

The Colts would probably first look internally - if there are any defensive position coaches that they think could take the step up to coordinator. Jonathan Gannon was someone who could have been promoted but he went to Philly with Sirianni.

If there are no internal candidates, Reich may select someone he has coached with in the past with the Eagles or Chargers.

2016-2017 Eagles coaches:

Defensive Coordinator – Jim Schwartz
Defensive Line – Chris Wilson
Linebackers – Ken Flajole
Secondary – Cory Undlin
Safeties – Tim Hauck
Defensive Quality Control/Defensive Line – Phillip Daniels
Defensive Quality Control/Secondary – Dino Vasso

2014-2015 Chargers coaches:

Defensive Coordinator – John Pagano
Defensive Line – Don Johnson
Linebackers – Mike Nolan (2015), Joe Barry (2014)
Assistant Linebackers – Bobby King
Secondary – Ron Milus
Assistant Secondary – Greg Williams
Defensive Quality Control – Chris Shula (2015), Chad Grimm (2014)

How is the GM there not under fire for hiring Meyer? Did Shaud hire Urban on his own? Either way, why would you want to be the HC if the GM is a rubber stamp for an own who doesnt understand football?

Wasn't Mayer hired first?

So......this is classic Jags news. Wouldn't it be something if BoB could destroy two teams in the AFC South....

There’s really only one choice….he knows the area, he knows the complex and where all the offices are in Lucas Oil, so orientation will be a piece of cake! Oh, and he can give pregame and halftime speeches!

I see you are in favor of tanking for a new QB. :D

If Pagano hadn't retired after his second season as the Bears DC, he would have likely been fired from the job.

Steelers fans on Twitter are currently ripping Rapeburger and Tomlin. Saying that it proves Ben is washed. No shit! He's played 18 years! What dumbasses.
If they fire Tomlin, he needs to pick up the blue courtesy phone, and Jim should be on the other end.
We hate the Steelers, but they are never soft. Tomlin would come in, the religious services would come to an end, and butts would start getting kicked. Just what we need. Well, and a QB.

I wish some team would ask to interview Reich !!!!

Oldcolt 01-17-2022 10:49 AM

The fact that Reich has so many assistants interviewing tells you what the NFL thinks of Reich as a coach and a leader. He is going nowhere

I think most people who want Frank fired want him gone because the offense has been bad or they don't like the play calling. BUT. if you watch the Warner breakdown on Wentz the plays calls were good. Wentz just missed them .

I am not sure this can be fixed with Wentz. But he's on the roster for another yr so I am preparing for him being here and hoping he makes a giant step forward.

As far as the coaches. Everyone hates Flus. but we were a top 10 scoring D. And top 2?? in takeaways So top 10/2 in the most important stats is pretty impressive. But most get wrapped up in the yards per game allowed.

And as far as the D goes. Everyone bitches about our soft zone. Well about half way through the season Flus called more man to man than probably anytime hes been here. And Ballard even mentioned that. So the D is adjusting. Rock looked a lot better once this happened because he is more of a man corner. Just gonna need another man corner to go with Rock.

Then again I said we'd win the SB this yr so....

If he would stick to man coverage, I would be happy. Mix in a zone from time to time, but rely on man coverage for the most part.

I would think we will be seeing more man coverage. The personal has grown into a group that you can start to increase the man and see how it goes. I'm thinking of our cb situation the last few years and think zone may have been better with who we had. Those guys are maturing. Lets hope it continues.

I think Rock was misplaced in zone and played poorly. On the other hand Rhodes was more proficient in zone and thats why he was so much better last yr than this yr. And Rock came on later in the yr with M2M

We really did play a lot more man this yr.

Can you imagine the bitching that will happen if CB goes after a shut down corner with our 1st pick in the draft??? But that's what its gonna take unless you want to let that player develop , like they did Rock

In addition to this year's staff getting interview requests, Jonathan Gannon - last year's DB position coach who followed Sirianni to Philly to be the Eagles DC - already has 3 interview requests to be a head coach. Talk about a fast riser!

This is a little odd - but again, it is the Raiders.

So the team has not dismissed GM Mike Mayock yet. But it looks like they are going to interview GM candidates - does Mayock have to re-interview to keep his current job? Or do they move him to some other position and bring in someone new? Anyway, Rapoport says that Dodds is on their short list for interviews.

Not really though.

MeSayDayo 01-18-2022 09:05 AM

I do like Carr, and more than Wentz. Having said that, Derek Carr? That is who we are pining for now? Have we really sank so low in our expectations of what we need out of a signal caller that David Carr is the answer to our problems?
I'll pass.
It will take some form of player or pick to acquire Carr. What has he proven at this point in his career except being a serviceable starter who cant win big games and is inconsistent at best. You can argue his weapons, you can argue the fact that his franchise moved, blah blah. Bottom line is Derek Carr is average, and to give up ANYTHING for a QB right now, he better be a substantial upgrade over Carson.
I still think we go Trubisky, Mariota or Winston. I hope Winton, because I think he brings the best things that Wentz does but has way better vision on the field and can get through his progressions. He's aggressive, and throws picks, but I do think his vision is miles ahead of Carson and he could be acquired for nothing.

Food for thought

Carr is good. Until he was injured in the game against us a few years back, everyone was saying he was a top 5 quarterback. I would take him in a heartbeat with this team. Winston is also an upgrade over Wentz, but I like Carr a little more.
