I would be surprised if Eberflus gets a gig. Especially with a rebuilding team where innovative offensive coaches and coordinators are the hot ticket.

Chaka 01-04-2021 04:09 PM

Falcons have apparently requested an interview with Colts college scouting director Morocco Brown for their GM position:

Goes against the grain of the current trend in the NFL, but consider the teams involved.

The Chargers are reportedly interested in interviewing Eberflus as well.

Chargers would be a good gig. Already got your franchise QB in place.

The Texans still trying to make themselves Cheats South.

Per Rapoport, the Texans are hiring Caserio for GM.

So probably a Belicheat coaching tree hire then.

Looks like Eberflus has reached the same conclusion. He has now declined to interview with the Texans. He plans to interview with the Jets and Chargers.

I don't blame him for turning down the Texans. They have a great QB, but O'Brian gave up too damn many draft picks. A team with Watson should never only win 4 games. Sounds like Watson wants out of Houston, too bad those idiots won't trade him to the Colts, he would make us the team to beat in the AFC.

AlwaysSunnyinIndy 01-10-2021 07:24 PM

Dodds has now withdrawn from the Carolina GM job search.

Earlier this season, the beat writers were saying that Dodds likes Indy and working with Ballard. Dodds also knows that he will probably only have one shot at being a GM - so he is being extremely picky about which job he goes after.

Colts assistant GM Ed Dodds is withdrawing from the Carolina Panthers GM search. Dodds respects the Panthers organization, and he was honored to go through the process, but ultimately decided to withdraw.

Anyone notice that Josh McDaniels is conspicuously absent as a head coaching candidate this year? Haven't heard of even one team seeking to interview him.

I just can't imagine what the Colts would look like with him as our coach, but I know one thing - they'd be less likeable.

Good, keep him in house, he's been part of 3 good to excellent draft classes thus far.

He's screwed. Jerking the Colts around didn't help his already bad reputation, and now that their offense tanked without Brady, no thinks he's this offensive genius anymore.

Saw this blurb from Al Breer of Sports Illustrated:

https://www.si.com/nfl/2021/01/11/mo...pederson-fired

Quote:

Pay attention to Colts assistant GM Ed Dodds’s name popping up in Detroit—as reported by the Detroit News’ Dave Birkett. Dodds is very high on 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh’s list, and Dodds’s name did come up during Saleh’s interview. That the highly-regarded Indy exec was a late add in the interview process would at least indicate there’s a post-interview level of interest from the Lions in hiring Saleh. And if Paton lands in Denver, maybe even more so.

If he takes that job, he's a complete moron. You're just asking to be fired in a couple of years if you take that job.

I don’t believe you should ever turn down an interview. It’s always a good experience and you’ll learn a lot by the different questions are asked by different companies. And it gives you an idea either just how good your situation is or why you should leave where you’re at and go someplace different

Or it's McVisor's job to accept, be announced as Eagles head coach, then reconsider and withdraw his name from the job and remain with the Cheats.

Supposedly Eberflus had a great interview with the Texans. Who knows when they will select their head coach - they have interviewed 10 or so candidates. Some of the interviews occurred before they picked their GM - so now they are re-interviewing those candidates a second time with their new GM included.

Good organizations will lose people. A head coach should look for young smart guys who want to become a HC. Look at Chuck Noll or Bill Walsh’s coaching tree.

And while you may lose talent, the organization will attract smart people looking to advance your team with a different out look. Great businesses, like great teams look for new points of view, because change is inevitable. Its better to ahead on that curve rather than behind it.

Not to mention that those young, ambitious coaches will know that the organization has become a pipeline for HC and coordinator positions, so they are more likely to look for interviews there.
