I absolutley expect one of our 2nd or 3rd rounders to be an RB. Mack is a nice back, but he is not going to be a feature back.

I would sign CJ Anderson and fill other spots

I really don't like the pick, and that's no slight to Nelson. I just think it's bad team-building strategy.

DragonTails 04-26-2018 09:24 PM

Maybe coach will use Mack properly and Nelson can open up some holes and he can take it to the house instead of watching TR run into OL AHs.

How well does he pass block? I know he is a solid runner, but Mack sucks at pass blocking and we need one of our committee backs to be able to catch and block.

Indiana V2 04-26-2018 09:25 PM

As much as I'd love to have another first round pick, I'd rather stick with the picks we have, than trading them to move back into the first. We need to add more pieces.

I mostly agree with you. Number 6 needed a more game changing player than a guard can be. I just can't get to upset about top teir big uglys, so I can live with it if he ends up being what most pundits claim.

Fixed it for you. :):)

Taking the BPA is bad team building?

Nonsense

Chubb, Michel or Penny one should be there

I'm not thrilled with the pick for the same reason as Polian, who clearly preferred Smith at #6. I personally would never use a #6 overall on any offensive linemen except a really gifted left tackle, and I'm not convinced Nelson at guard will have as much of a transformative effect on the Colts' entire offensive line as some expect, at least not immediately. We'll see.

But picking Nelson at #6 makes me wonder if Ballard doesn't have something else up his sleeve, possibly moving back up into the 1st round to grab someone like Evans, Landry or Davenport. Which could explain why he went with Nelson over Smith at #6.

In my opinion, there were only 3 players who I didn't have any reservations about. Chubb, Barkley and Nelson. And having the 6th pick in the draft, you can't fuck it up. Watch some videos on Nelson and you will see how fucking good he really is. He will open up running lanes and protect Luck, what more could you ask for? He is one of the most bad ass guards I have seen in a long time. He is a bad motherfucker. I truly believe he hates people.

wonder if Ballard expects a "1st round quality" defensive player (LVE?) to slide down to #36 or #37?

smitty46953 04-26-2018 09:33 PM

Saints trading up with Packers, think they want Davenport ?

If he really is a generational talent as many are saying, then you have to take him. Lot of people thought he was the best overall player in this draft.

Seems likely and we are in a good place to benefit.

I am cool with it, but Smith was my preferred player because our LBs were so awful and he is very very good.

Every time you're optimistic about something I check myself.

Yeah, I can talk myself into this one. He's going to be REALLY good.

It’s not that Nelson sucks, its that he’s a guard. There are reasons guards don’t get drafted at 6. Nelson pretty much has to get enshrined in Canton to come close to justifying the pick. And I’m all about protecting Luck - that’s why I was pissed that Ballard did nothing in free agency to address the line. Ballard refused to use an asset that was plentiful (cap space) to address the line and instead used one that is scarce (top 10 pick) to do it. In the process he passed on two great LB prospects. Do you think he can sign a pro bowl LB in free agency next year?

But you are thrilled he over paid in the draft? Yes I’m saying it - he should have overpaid in free agency to solve the line issues. That’s what happens in free agency. Especially for 26 yr old pro bowl players. That sounds a hell of a lot better to me than sitting on loads of cap space and using your second most valuable asset on a guard. When is he going to use that cap space and not overpay?

Did you hate the Kelley pick also?

I liked Smith too. I'm a defense guy. But hard to argue with protecting Luck as a priority. He better work out.

My thoughts also. I wanted Chubb, then Smith.

Nelson will be good for the line and help luck a lot, but yeah not exactly how I wanted it to go

The upgrade was an amazing difference wasn't it? Not sure how you cant want to get away from one of the lowest yards per gain in the rushing attach and a QB that ran for his life on every play.

Besides he was the BPA and maybe the 1st or second best player in the draft. He fits need and BPA

I can't fathom how anyone would be upset with this pick.

I hear ya. Not what we wanted, but a solid talent, not worth freaking out over like some special posters. I am pretty sure he is a guy we are going to be happy to have for many seasons.

Indiana V2 04-26-2018 10:02 PM

Seeing all these defensive players getting selected makes me hope there are some quality ones left for us in the second round.

Can't help wondering if we had traded back with buf and still got him

I continue to wonder if the pick means Ballard 1) intends to move up back into Round One for a defensive player or 2) doesn't think he has to because he expects one of those guys to still be there at #36

We have traded WR Martavis Bryant to the Raiders for their third round pick (75th overall).
