Nelson is pennies on the dollar

My thoughts exactly.

This now puts three 1st rounders on the OL.

ZiaColt 04-26-2018 09:00 PM

not thrilled with the pick, but not particularly upset either. guess it means Polian's advice wasn't taken by the Colts after all

wonder if it means Ballard has another move in mind to get an "almost Smith" or "almost Chubb" late in the 1st round?

You may very well be right, with how quickly the pick was in and the Bills trade following.

How much cap space does the team have? How many top 10 picks do they have?

Maybe that was the plan in moving down. Pick Nelson and use the extra second round pick to move back into the first to get someone else.

Indiana V2 04-26-2018 09:03 PM

I feel a little better about Nelson after seeing on Twitter all the experts saying Nelson is one of the best OL to be taken in the draft for over a decade.

Yep, my first pick was Chubb and Nelson was my second. Elway fucked us again, but not going to complain. Love the Nelson pick.

smitty46953 04-26-2018 09:05 PM

Somewhere Andrew Luck just rubbed his shoulder and said that feels better

Wouldn’t be surprised. I imagine this pick will certainly be beneficial for Luck’s peace of mind. Need him back in good health both physically and mentally.

Hoopsdoc 04-26-2018 09:05 PM

You can’t be to upset with this pick, in my opinion, if you’ve watched any colts football at all in the past few years. The line has been one constant turnstile of shit. Now, we put Nelson in there with Kelly and Stanzo and suddenly, Lucks shoulder is feeling a lot better.

Puck 04-26-2018 09:05 PM

I remember how much of an improvement when we used a 1st on a center. This may be an even bigger improvement.

Gotta protect 12 or be looking for a job in a yr or two and Ballard knew it

Racehorse 04-26-2018 09:06 PM

Mcglinchey is off the boards now

The Cap rolls over, we can build and exploit the extra space when the team is ready. Relax.

Zak Keefer‏Verified account @zkeefer

This is what Quenton Nelson said back at the NFL Combine: "I want to dominate all my opponents and take away their will to play the game (by) finishing them past the whistle."

Something #Colts have needed on the o-line for years.

Racehorse 04-26-2018 09:13 PM

Man, the compensation for trading the #10 is not nearly as good as the #7

They need a bit more of this on the defensive side as well. Love the attitude.

4 QB's gone.

DrSpaceman 04-26-2018 09:14 PM

I know some will say its too high for a guard but I still like the pick

Not sure why you are not thrilled with the pick. Nelson is a bad ass and something the Colts have needed for a long damn time. Chubb would have been my 1st pick, but Nelson is a fucking beast.

Top talent left? Do we trade back into the 1st?

DrSpaceman 04-26-2018 09:16 PM

I think Castonzo, Mewhort, Kelly and Nelson are a pretty solid line, if they can all stay healthy

Need a RT though.

Plus Kelly and Nelson are both young, they can anchor the interior line for a decade or more.

Puck 04-26-2018 09:16 PM

I one of our next picks is gonna be a RB.

Nelson very easily could be the best player in this draft. You're going to look back at this pick and be kissing Ballard's ass for making it.

Everyone thinks he will be great, a HOF really. It is pretty universal praise and a safe pick. I just hope our line does improve bc a 6 on a guard is pretty freaking high

As I said, I'm not thrilled but not especially upset either.

I'm not thrilled with the pick for the same reason as Polian, who clearly preferred Smith at #6. I personally would never use a #6 overall on any offensive linemen except a really gifted left tackle, and I'm not convinced Nelson at guard will have as much of a transformative effect on the Colts' entire offensive line as some expect, at least not immediately. We'll see.

But picking Nelson at #6 makes me wonder if Ballard doesn't have something else up his sleeve, possibly moving back up into the 1st round to grab someone like Evans, Landry or Davenport. Which could explain why he went with Nelson over Smith at #6.

Chromeburn 04-26-2018 09:21 PM

Take that Bills trade and take Tremaine at 12?
