This really isn’t that complicated. If you could take Harold Landry or Derwin James, you take James every day. You don’t rule out a position when you don’t know who is available. |
I didn't see much of any impact from any safety--is it due to just how this defense is?--to warrant using a high pick on the position. Find another Antoine Bethea.

Bring back geathers and Farley and ss isn’t a need. We need to focus on the front 4. |

Hooker admittedly was not the same player last year. But, I think that you under value his contribution. The Colts defense was rarely were challenged with the deep ball partly because Hooker did his job of manning center field. I totally agree that Geathers and Farley make a good enough SS tandem that SS should not be much of a consideration in the draft. |

I feel like Bethea was the same way, without having the impact plays of Bob Sanders. |

I'd rather not draft another safety.
Need corners, LB, DL, WR. Not in that order though. LB/DL is still most important I think. That will improve the corner play. |

That said, por que no los dos? |
The Bucs are transitioning to a 3-4 from their 4-3 tampa-2 inspired scheme. Might be able to get some players for a firesale. Specifically, they have two good LB's there.

I'd be happy with one of those first two picks being used on the best O-lineman available. The other on DT/DE.
The game is won in the trenches, and they couldn't run on one of the worst run defenses in the league. After that, two WR and the rest defense. |

Watt, Von Miller, Myles Garrett, Ryan Kerrigan, Jason Pierre Paul, Chandler Jones, Khalil Mack, DeForest Buckner, Bradley Chubb, and Fletcher Cox (11 men) were all drafted in the top half of the first round. But half and half? While I totally agree that the men drafted in the top half of the first round have a much BETTER chance of becoming an impact player / sackmaster, that does not preclude a guy drafted lower from becoming one as well through player development and great coaching. By your logic, Roquan Smith should have been gifted DROY honors at the beginning of the season because he was drafted high. No way Leonard could be an impact player as a 2nd rounder. Have faith in Ballard's talent evaluation process. He has done pretty good so far. Walk Worthy, |
It is rare for a rookie to be a dominant pass rusher. They take time to develop. We have young talented players on the line who need to develop. If one or both of our second round picks from last year make a jump and the other guys improve with a full off season in this scheme we should be much better. If we get lucky and one of the premier pass rushers becomes available so much the better. I’m saying that we don’t need to drop 20 million on a free agent to develop a pass rush. And just by dropping 20 million it doesn’t guarantee a great pass rush

The DL talent in this class is expected to move early, with possibly all 5 of the top 5 picks being DL, and as many as 10 of the top 15 being DL. The talent is there, it's just being recognized and will likely be plucked off the board before the Colts have an opportunity to pick. That's not to say Ballard couldn't hit another home run with a guy like Charles Omenihu, that's just recognizing that the Colts played themselves out of a chance at the premium pass rush talent in this class. They're not getting a Nick Bosa, Quinnen Williams, Josh Allen, Rashan Gary, Ed Oliver, Clelin Ferrell, Montez Sweat, Jeffery Simmons, and probably not Jachai Polite or Christian Wilkins (Dexter Lawrence will probably be gone, too, but the Colts aren't likely to draft him). That's all of the consensus first round DL talent, and it's all likely to go top 20, maybe one falls into the 21-25 range. Obviously none of us know who is going to be successful from this class and who is going to bust, but I'd feel a lot more confident in the chances of the Colts getting a premiere pass rusher out of this draft if they come away with a Montez Sweat or Clelin Ferrell than if they don't. |
Compensatory picks have been announced. Colts add a fourth-rounder (No. 135 overall) as expected. :cool:

I'll take it.

If I had my choice, I would add a DE in free agency (bid for best available) and draft 3-tech and NT at 26 and 34. Young inside tandem to pair with Autey and Lewis with Ridgeway as 5th man would greatly improve our D-Line.
After that, BPA all the way. Walk Worthy, Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk |

We have signed TE Ross Travis to a one-year contract extension. :cool: |
@RapSheet
Sources: The #Chiefs have had trade talks centered around star pass-rusher Justin Houston. With Houston’s cap number and the potential to franchise tag Dee Ford, Houston appears to be a rare top pass-rusher available. Teams have been calling with real interest. Wonder if Ballard will make an exception with a former player of his. He did just turn 30 but he’s still quite effective. |

Just a comment after listening to Ballard and Reich yesterday. Damn did we luck into the jackpot. It's getting to the point that I just trust that these guys have there shit together and will do the right thing. They both have the same plan that they actually believe in. They don't even seem tempted by Bell/Brown. I've always believed that gm/coaching is the real key to winning in any sport. It's early but so far I can't believe how fortunate we are. It's especially sweet for all us Freaks who suffered thru the last few years of absolute incompetence.

@MikeGarafolo
The #Giants have discussed the possibility of trading LB Olivier Vernon, sources tell me and @RapSheet. The big score of free agency a few years ago, Vernon might have played his last down as a Giant. |
He was overrated and overpaid when they signed him. Zero interest in that guy.

Patriots have released Dwayne Allen saving $7.8 million. Raiders resigned OT Denzelle Good 1 year @ $1.8 million
