Massively blown coverage. Hopefully that was an anomaly.

Nice pressure all day.

Yet, here we are, still only up by 7 nearly through the first half. our defense is way too reliant on the offense making a mistake to capitalize on. We rarely just get a normal "stop". If we aren't getting sacks, or interceptions, it's almost always 3 or 7 for the opposing offense. We don't break up passes, or force rushed passes that sail high against good QBs.

I know that's just how it is, but it's also why I constantly feel like our defense is overrated. They're a boom or bust type of defense and it's maddening sometimes.

Brylok 12-20-2020 03:03 PM

There wasn't a Colts defender within a 25 yard radius of the receiver. Smh

Maniac 12-20-2020 03:03 PM

Stop running the ball out of the endzone

and yet there are probably 25 other teams in the NFL that would kill to have our defense.

Dewey 5 12-20-2020 03:08 PM

Damnit Rivers.

WaynesWorld87 12-20-2020 03:09 PM

We're going to fuck around and let this be a tie game at the half in a game we had every opportunity to "finish them" by the half.

Sure looks that way

Sure, probably so, but it doesn't make the "boom or bust" nature of our defense less frustrating for a fan. I mean I know not all Colts fans feel the way I do about our defense, but it gives me anxiety during games most weeks. We never have a start to finish dominant defensive performance, yet we've got a top 5-10 defense in the league.

WaynesWorld87 12-20-2020 03:14 PM

Can our defensive backs just break up one pass? Is that too much to ask for? If we aren't sacking Watson, and he has a chance to throw, we don't have a defender in the vicinity of the receiver.

I share your sentiments but it’s still a massive improvement over some of the hot garbage we’ve put on the field in recent seasons. That said, I really worry about our prospects come January.

Dewey 5 12-20-2020 03:18 PM

Well at least the D held them to a fg. Not the worst outcome.

Puck 12-20-2020 03:19 PM

Great job D

HoosierinFL 12-20-2020 03:25 PM

Not a big fan of that 2nd quarter

Puck 12-20-2020 03:27 PM

That was one of the best 1st halves this D has played all yr. Now hopefully the full shut down D comes out in the second half like in the past

In Reich we trust.

WaynesWorld87 12-20-2020 03:40 PM

Just tuck it and run, Jacoby. You had a 10+ yard gain.

Dewey 5 12-20-2020 03:41 PM

This drive was screwed as soon as they let Brisket throw a pass

WaynesWorld87 12-20-2020 03:42 PM

Well that sucks. Alll that momentum and the drive ends in a FG. If Brissett had just tucked it and ran on his called pass play, we probably would've rode the momentum to a TD, but that play killed our momentum.

Chromeburn 12-20-2020 03:42 PM

That Brisset should have been a TD. Hilton was wide open

Puck 12-20-2020 03:43 PM

Frank got to cute leaving JB in for that 1st down play Could have cost us 4 points

You're right. Our defense the past two seasons has been much more enjoyable to watch than many of our defenses the previous 5-10 years. All I want, just once this season, is to watch them dominate a game from start to finish. No bend-or-break BS and no "boom or bust" type of play, just a normal, we grind the opposing offense into 3-and-outs, 5+ punts, and maybe a turnover or two.

That's the mark of a truly good defense in my opinion and this defense never approaches that.

Dewey 5 12-20-2020 03:48 PM

This is not a good defense

WaynesWorld87 12-20-2020 03:48 PM

God I hate this defense and DeShaun Watson.

WaynesWorld87 12-20-2020 03:50 PM

Can we just get one fucking three and out? Just one! Is that too much to ask of a top 10 defense? Or maybe ask for a little less and ask them to just NOT give up multiple 3rd and 10+ in the same game?

WaynesWorld87 12-20-2020 03:54 PM

What the actual fuck are our DBs doing today? They're NEVER in the vicinity of a receiver.

TheMugwump 12-20-2020 03:56 PM

Stupid, pointless challenge.

Actually damn good challenge

WaynesWorld87 12-20-2020 04:00 PM

Hits the upright and still bounces the right way for a made FG. Of course.

Nah. Winning that challenge wasn't worth the possible loss of a timeout and the loss of a challenge.

But it is better to be lucky than good, I suppose.

o

They Texans had an even bigger "Of course" ..... they had a 1st down and goal before the challenge, then they had 2 chances to get one foot after the challenge, then they had a 5-yard penalty at the worst possible time, and then they had to settle for 3 points when everybody who was watching the game was sure they had a touchdown in their pocket.

I was thinking the same thing ...... I was thinking that even if he had won the challenge, they would have had 2 chances to get one foot ...... but then, the ensuing penalty changed all of that.

That's a bad omen. I'm beginning to think the Colts are going to piss this game away.

o

I'm not thrilled about that occurrence either, but the fact that they got only 3 points instead of 7 right there is just as big of an omen going the other way ...... if the Colts' offense had done what the Texans' offense did right there, we probably would have had some broken TV sets and computers from Coltftreaks posters.

o

WaynesWorld87 12-20-2020 04:11 PM

Ok defense, time to step up and actually force a punt. And then the offense needs to pull their heads out, stop stalling, and put 7 on the board instead of 3.

Brylok 12-20-2020 04:12 PM

Rigo good from 53.

TheMugwump 12-20-2020 04:13 PM

Hot Rod with a 53 yarder! Pure money on that kick too.

There are teams whose kickers have missed tons of makeable kicks this season. I'm glad Specs is a Colt.

WaynesWorld87 12-20-2020 04:14 PM

Well, my hopes for a 3-and-out were immediately squashed.

TheMugwump 12-20-2020 04:16 PM

Hey guys, new idea.

Maybe put someone on David Johnson?

WaynesWorld87 12-20-2020 04:18 PM

Fuck this defense.
