None of that was true when we played the Rams, yet 33 passes to 17 runs... Texans, 27 passes to 21 runs. We 100% should have lost to the Broncos except for the lucky leaping call. It would have been Steichen's fault for poor clock management. To be honest, I'm surprised to be so soundly in the minority here. |
No, it was working. Give him a full deck and see what happens. If we suck, or collapse then its over.

Accountability has to start at the top but you do not fire you coach when you are, technically, still playoff eligable. Yes, we have lost 4 our of our last 5 after starting 7-1 but that still puts us in reach of hitting the playoffs if we can win some of our last games. Now, are we going to win them? It looks unlikely but, hey, a former 6th round QB picked from the Midwest also got his chance after seeing the starter go down for the count in mid-season and took his team to greatness. In college: TB = 29 games / 61.9% / 4,773 yards / 30 TD / 17 INT RL = 37 games / 63.8% / 7,311 yards / 45 TD / 18 INT (plus RL had 2,130 rush yards with 36 rush TDs) Now, am I saying that RL = TB ? Of course not but no one, and I mean NO ONE, thought TB would turn out being what he became based on his college resume. NO ONE. Just like no one predicts that RL will become a franchise QB either. I predict that Rivers will stay on the Practice Squad and is here as a much more hands on-the-field mentor/coach for Leonard in order to not jepordize his time line for the HoF. I think Leonard is our QB for the rest of the season and the Colts want to see what they got. |

Pez, every coach makes good and bad decisions. Steichen is not different. He is a good coach, and will get better with experience. I remember Belichik in Cleveland, Reid in Philly, and there are a few others who teams gave up on that went to another place and took off. I am not saying SS is in the same league as they are (yes, I know the NFL is the same league, but you know what I mean). I am just saying that coaches are given up on too early, just like QBs. Tomlin is a classic example of a guy who benefitted from his situation. The Steelers are one of the best run teams of all time. They mask a lot of his deficiencies. Firing guys is usually not the solution unless they lose the lockerroom, like Reich did, and SS still has the faith of the guys on the roster.

I'd fire everyone from the GM down, but we can't because we have no first round picks for the next two drafts and who in their right mind would want to take the job(s).
So, No. There's no point. |

It’s far more likely the next guy is Jim Caldwell instead of the second coming of Tony Dungy. We know Steichen can win with competent quarterback play. It’s just a matter of finding that quarterback. |
